In our new apartment, the living room is the first thing you see when you walk in. Given our lack of an entryway, and the fact that it's my favourite room to spend time in, it's nice to put in a little extra effort to make it feel fresh and unique.
With Nick Scali opening their brand new showroom in Caringbah, it seemed liked the perfect opportunity to collaborate on my tips for updating your living space.
1. Start with the sofa
In many ways, your sofa is the focal point of the room, so it's important to get it right! Try out a few different styles and work out what feels comfortable to you and works with your interior aesthetic.
2. Add new textures
New surfaces add a great point of interest to your space. A coffee table in marble or concrete like above adds an extra element, and they work nicely in contrast to other pieces. You can also look for different textured cushions and throws to tie your decor together - I take inspiration from Scandi design and add shearling and Moroccan throws for contrast with my more minimalist pieces.
3. Invest in a rug
I don't think I fully appreciated how much a rug can do for a space until recently. They add so much warmth and really bring the room together. Look for a great neutral colour that pairs back with your furniture and can withstand a bit of wear. I love how much different colours, textures and patterns can change the feel of the space, don't be afraid to experiment.
Much like my wardrobe, a little bit of layering, some trinkets and finishing touches never go astray. A good collection of coffee table books, vases and jugs, perfumes and candles, flowers, indoor plants, lamps and objets d'art are all favourite ways to add to your space.
5. Have fun
Interiors should be a reflection of your personality, and your living room should be a warm and welcoming space you want to spend time in, so don't hesitate to try something different, mix it up and have a bit of fun!
