A travel diary from my recent trip to NYC...
My first introduction to New York was during February in 2006. It was snowing, freezing, sludgy and yet somehow so romantic, and so very New York. I fell in love with the city I had grown up dreaming about, a childhood spent furiously watching every movie or television show set there that I could find. Now, a decade later, it's a place I feel lucky to have spent quite a bit of time in, familiar with its quirks, subway system, boroughs and, arguably the most important thing, knowing where to get a good cup of coffee. The second time I travelled to NY was also during Winter, my now husband and I spent three months braving out the cold whilst exploring the city during our University break. This year, it seemed like time we try a different season, especially having an incredibly fun whirlwind week last September for NYFW.
Spring is definitely a visually stunning time in the city, it's not hot enough to feel grimy, and the blossoms are out in full force. There is a chill in the air that calls for a bit of layering (it's closer to early winter weather here in Sydney), and on a nice clear day, the sun gives you the illusion of a city kissed by summer.
These were a few of my highlights from a month of NYC spring:
164 Mott St, New York, NY 10013
Start your day of right with their heavenly banana bread (get it topped with ricotta & honey) and a latte.
99 Gansevoort St, New York, NY 10014
A first stop in NY to see their latest exhibitions, take in the views and enjoy a post-visit stroll along the High Line.
Madison Square Park, Madison Ave & E.23rd St, New York, NY 10010
When in Rome... Get your tasty dirty burger, a side of fries and a shake and plant yourself in the terrace of their Madison park location.
567 Union Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222
Book ahead to enjoy a delightful meal at this trendy new Williamsburg institution. Order the Malfaldini and an Aperol Spritz, you can thank me later.
136 Metropolitan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11249
What could be better than dinner and a movie all rolled into one? Pre book tickets to your film of choice and make sure you show up early to claim prime seats. You can order throughout the film and your food & beverages will be promptly delivered to you during the screening. I also recommend heading to Van Leeuwens a few block away for a later night cone after your movie sesh.
Make your way from a window shopping session at The Apartment by The Line to favourite boutiques including Isabel Marant, Phillip Lim, Celine, A.P.C, Tibi and & fashion favourites, COS and & Other Stories.
394 Broome St, New York, NY 10013
It's all about staying caffeinated after all.
151 Elizabeth St, New York, NY 10012
Pop in here for a tasty lunch in a cute, intimate setting. I'm a fan of the DIY egg sandwich - so good.
185 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10012
My new favourite vegan joint. Order takeaway and find a bench at Washington Square Park under the beautiful blossoms to enjoy a meal in the sun.
