'70s Revolution

Take me back

Think lace, denim, fringing, suede and of course, hoop earrings, when it comes to '70s style.

Soft touch

A subtle nod to the '70s in the homes of Sarah Sherman Samuel and Tali Roth

Tiramisu anyone?

Retro desserts are definitely having a moment, you don't have to look far to find new takes on tiramisu, trifle, fruit cobbler and upside down cake. This vegan almond peach cake by Love & Lemons is a perfect example.

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending the Macquarie Centre Lead The Way SS15 show. They sent a lot of great looks down the runway, but the trend that stood out most to me was, of course, the seventies. There is just something about that combination of denim, camel, leather and white lace that gets me so excited for summer.

I love to see a trend progress and evolve across all forms of fashion, design, interiors and lifestyle - minimalism is one that I have definitely noticed, but the '70s is sure doing it's best to catch up. We can thank the recent season of Mad Men and films like American Hustle for reminding us to get a bar cart situation happening quick smart, or that there is nothing wrong with a bit of a hair wave and a hoop earring, and the more texture the merrier.

Similarly, subtle '70s touches have been making there way into homes and interior magazines. Think less bright colours and retro prints, and more modular furniture, shearling, natural timber, textured fabrics, indoor plants and hints of perspex and brass.

Will you be embracing a little bit of '70s style this season?
